On this reference page, we break down how to interpret error messages returned by our football API and what each one actually means for your integration.
Endpoint specific
A large number of our football API endpoints expose their own specific errors, and those will always arrive in the approved format. That said, there are also general errors that any endpoint may return whenever something in your call fails to satisfy the requirements. To fully understand what a given endpoint expects, read the detailed specification for that endpoint.
Standard errors
Here we list standard errors you can encounter from any script across our football API services.
Missing API key
To verify your identity when calling our football API endpoints, we rely on the api key and api secret that you generate in your profile on our website. If you forget to pass it in the HTTP GET request as a URL parameter, you will get the error message below together with the following HTTP response code. HTTP: 400
Missing API secret
If you did provide your api key but for some reason did not provide your api secret, you will get the following error. Note that if you provided your api secret but not your api key, you will get the previous error message instead. HTTP: 400
Invalid API key and secret combination
You will hit this error when you provided both your api key and api secret, but the combination is not correct. We require the key and the secret together so that someone holding only one of them cannot access our services and effectively steal from your hourly quota. HTTP: 401
No subscription
To use our football API services you must subscribe or start your trial. If you are a new user and have never subscribed before, this is the error message you will receive in the response. HTTP: 402
Expired subscription
If you were subscribed to our services before but your subscription has now expired, you will receive this error. You can resolve it by signing up once again for the next month. HTTP: 402
Missing api endpoint contoller or module
When you make a request to our services you provide a module and a controller. If for some reason you did not provide a module or a controller, you will get this error message. HTTP: 400
Invalid module
If everything is fine with the format of your request but you provided a bad module name, you will then receive this type of error message. HTTP: 400
Invalid controller
If everything is fine with the format of your request and you provided an existing module name but a bad controller name, you will then receive this type of error message. HTTP: 400
Invalid HTTP method
All of our football API endpoints accept HTTP GET calls, but in the future we might start offering other methods as well. Therefore, if you made a request with the wrong HTTP method that is not supported by the endpoint you chose, you will get an error. HTTP: 501
